And not even in the sense that the Addams Family are an absolute oddity, but rather in the sense that everyone in this film pulls off their roles extremely well.
You have Raul Julia and Anjelica Houston as Gomez and Moriticic Addams respectively, and they manage to portray their roles perfectly, hitting every single necessary note while still being faithful to the source material.
The other standout from this film is Christopher Lloyd, who everyone already recognizes as an incredible actor. Here he plays Uncle Fester, who appears to have come home from the Bermuda Triangle. but has strangely forgotten a lot of his heritage.
Plot-wise, this film isn't particularly strong (but it doesn't have to be) and it's certainly not as rich in subplots as the sequel was, but this is an extremely entertaining film that's well worth a re-watch every Halloween.

Their plan is to install Mrs. Craven's son Gordon in the house as 'long-lost' Uncle Fester Addams, with the purpose of gaining access to the vault. Initially Gordon is all for this plan, but once he gets to know and like the family, he undergoes a crisis of confidence and must decide where his loyalties lie. br> The plot may be depressingly formulaic, but fortunately it is in the Addams' nature to be quirky. The humour is generally quite fresh and clever - who would have picked the villain's ultra-conventional wife pairing off with hirsute (and definitely unconventional) Cousin Itt? But along with the hits, there are some equally spectacular misses, including almost everything involving Grandma Addams. The other female Addams' are excellent, especially young Christina Ricci as the perpetually sullen Wednesday. Ultimately though, you have to wonder if the mysterious and macabre charm of the Addams has lost something in its modernisation, and if perhaps they should have been left to rest in peace.

This casting is all wrong. morticia looks like some alien stole her skin. she looks like mars attack. festers just plain stupid. wednesday is as weird as mortice, but her character is so enjoyable either way. gomez gets bored of his showboating, and is almost short when dealing with people? ya right…but gomez almost holds it together, then you get a stupid knife fight, only consisting of back hand swords. i liked the grandma and cousin ed. those were the two characters that were proper. overall, this story would have been better suited for the 1990 addam's family cast. i found family values to be a sad sequel, with some funny parts. you don't get too many actresses like ricci to pull off the part so well at such a young age.
